MEL
When I was sitting in my apartment thinking of ideas, I was thinking about an environmental installation I could do that was also, personally connected to me. I then thought of times I've been outdoors and felt a memory stuck with me and shaped who I am today while also touching base on environmental topics. but As a young child I spent a majority of my summers in northern Minnesota with my grandparents and sister. I hung out in the woods behind my grandparents house with my sister all day long, climbing trees, playing kick the can. But One person I spent my outdoors time with was my great grandfather Mel. He was an outdoorsman and he taught my father who eventually passed the knowledge to me. I think of these times and how it shaped who I am today. I think about the times I spent boating, hiking, just taking in the outdoors for what it was. I think about being out on the ice with him fishing, waiting, learning patients . In his memory I'm making an experience that the viewer and myself can relive this memory by completely immersing the viewer in an experience and can maybe learn to appreciate being outdoors too.
